An artist designs a jewel in the form of a mask to outwit technology

We at Vurma have not yet been encouraged, but the truth is that a jewel in the form of a mask has already been created that manages to outwit the most sophisticated technological systems.

We at Vurma have not yet been encouraged, but the truth is that a jewel in the form of a mask has already been created that manages to outwit the most sophisticated technological systems.

Its creator, the Polish artist Ewa Nowak, has been the pioneer in inventing a delicate and elegant item that would avoid facial recognition and, as a consequence, that faces could be stored in the databases of the most advanced computer systems in the world.

The mask in question, made of brass and emulating symmetrical and simple shapes, has been called 'Incognitio'. According to Nowak, the objective of his work would be none other than to protect our "privacy" from computer scanners or security cameras. In short, make it a little more difficult for facial algorithms to store information.

A creation that has not gone unnoticed by designers and creators around the world, as it won the prestigious Mazda Design Award at the Łódź Design Festival and its effectiveness has been tested using Facebook's DeepFace algorithm.

However, although it is not an outfit to integrate into our jewelry box or a basic to wear every day, Novak, somehow, invites us to reflect on the limits of privacy, technology, and on how gadgets that today we consider strange will evolve. . However, for us, Nowak above all has reaffirmed one of our vital maxims: that creativity and authenticity have no limits.
